About Estonian Hunters' Society

The first known hunting organizations were founded in 1869 in Pärnu. The adoption of the Hunting law in 1934 was the crucial moment in the development of Estonia's hunting. The number of hunting organizations increased continuously and in 1967 the Estonian Hunters' Society was created. Nowadays, most of the hunters in Estonia are members of the EHS, they manage the game and hunt on about 70% of Estonia's hunting territory.

The EHS deals with public relations, makes proposals to legislation, handles hunting tourism, taking care of the game, hunter training, skeet shooting, hounds, hunting trophies, organizing gatherings etc. The EHS publishes the only hunting magazine in Estonia - "the Estonian Hunter".

The Estonian Hunters' Society is also represented in international organizations

The biggest organization that unites the hunters all over the world is the CIC (Conseil International de la Chasse et de la Conservation du Giber). Estonia is a member since 1992.

Since 1999, Estonia is a member of FACE (Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the EU), which unites the hunting organisations of the European Union. FACE deals with public relations and hunting legislation in the EU Parlament.

Since 1997, Estonia is a member of FITASC (Federation Internationale De Tir Aux Armes Sportives de Chasse). FITASC coordinates globally the activities concerned with skeet shooting. Being a member of FITASC gives the members the right to participate in European and World Championships.
